Benedictine Abbey and Observatory of Kremsmünster
The imposing pile of buildings, as they now stand, is mostly of the seventeenth and eighteenth century. The library contains valuable volumes and art treasures. A rich stock of books including valuable medieval manuscripts such as the Codex millenarius and a collection of art treasures featuring top oeuvres of European goldsmithery (e.g.Tassilo Chalice, Tassilo Candelabra) have been preserved at Kremsmünster. The conservation of both structures and art treasures is exemplary.
The interesting collection of objects of natural history and the observatory are accessible within a guided tour only; with groups of 15+ these can be arranged anytime.
Visitors to Kremsmünster Abbey encounter a whole world of traditional culture and enological connoisseurship. The art of wine making has been fostered in the abbey’s cellars for centuries.
