Culture in Bad Hall and Kremsmünster

It all started with an unfortunate hunting accident – in a time when the region was densely wooded, sparsely inhabited and far away from the outside world.

The Benedictine Abbey of Kremsmünster was founded A.D. 777. The Abbey’s valuable art treasures, such as the Tassilo Chalice, satisfy the visitors who come to rejoice in this pleasant and imposing pile of buildings so rich in beautiful things. A striking feature of the Abbey is the observatory, eight stories high and considered “Europe’s first Baroque tower block”.

The Musical Instrument Museum on Kremsegg Castle is recognized as a worldwide hub for brass instruments from virtually all cultures and historical periods. Encircled by Abbey and Castle, the market town of Kremsmünster has lovely lanes and alleys.

Adlwang is most famous as Upper Austria’s oldest place of pilgrimage. The Pilgrimage Church „The Seven Sorrows of the Blessed Virgin Mary“ is a superb example of late-Gothic architecture. At the church you will find a tiny fountain with healing water that is said to have beneficial impacts with eye diseases. Each year in autumn, this picturesque rural commune plays host to the „Golden Saturday Nights“.
