Enlarged Thyroid Gland (Goiter)

Thanks to the iodination of table salt the prevalence of diffuse enlarged thyroid glands and the struma has reduced.

Latent iodine sufficiency is still common, especially in eastern Austria (Vienna: 75%!).
An increase in weight and high cholesterol levels are promoted by such a sufficiency.
The WHO recommends a daily iodine intake of 150 to 200 µg per day; 100ml of the thinned iodine brine offered at Bad Hall drinking cures contain 330 µg of iodine. The body’s iodine storage is filled for weeks and months. Besides the drinking cure, inhalations, eye iodine iontophoresis and iodine brine baths are offered to increase iodine intake.
Diffusely enlarged thyroid glands regress considerably or even normalize, further growing of strumas (which demand lower iodination) is prevented and a regression of 10% - 15% might occur. Iodination is individually chosen by your spa doctor.
